Semilla Bread USA was born from a simple belief: it is never too late to begin again. After a 26-year career in corporate America, building a path in banking and business leadership, Hector Pulido felt a growing desire to create something more personal, something rooted in passion, craftsmanship, and community. That search led him to new experiences: studying beer and wine, learning the art of coffee, and exploring the world of fermentation and artisan baking. While seeking business opportunities that truly connected with him, he discovered a sourdough baking class at Semilla Bread® in Bogotá, Colombia.

What began as curiosity quickly became inspiration. Hector attended the class and was immediately drawn to the artistry, discipline, and care behind naturally fermented breadmaking. The experience left such a strong impression that he approached the bakery’s founder, Vincenzo Lo Paro, and asked for the opportunity to spend time working in the bakery, applying what he had learned while deepening his understanding of the craft.

Over time, a friendship formed through a shared appreciation for quality, hard work, and artisan baking. That connection eventually led Hector to propose bringing the Semilla Bread® brand to the United States. Together, they agreed to form a partnership and open a new chapter in Wilmington, Delaware, a community Hector had come to know well after living there for several years.

Through market research and local insight, they recognized a clear opportunity: Wilmington was ready for a bakery focused on true artisan methods, naturally leavened breads, and products made with integrity and care.

Today, Semilla Bread® Wilmington continues the same philosophy established in Bogotá: long sourdough fermentation, carefully selected flours, handcrafted breads and pastries, and a commitment to quality without shortcuts. Every product reflects the journey, friendship, and passion that brought Semilla Bread® from Colombia to Delaware.

Semilla means seed. And every great story begins with one.
